The Canadian Taxpayers Federation publishes running debt clocks built on government fiscal estimates so Canadians can understand how fast taxpayer liabilities grow.
Provincial and federal figures reflect different borrowers and timelines; choose your province above for localized context alongside our petition campaigns.
How the live debt figure works: each clock uses a published starting debt on a start date and a published ending debt on an end date from government fiscal figures. The on-screen total moves forward evenly at the rate implied by those two published points. After the end date, the clock keeps rising at that same rate until updated figures are entered. Your share divides that live total by the population figure set for the clock.
The Debt Clock is a huge digital counter mounted on a truck that shows the debt soaring in real time. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation tours it across Canada and shares it widely on social media — and will again. Taxpayers who see those numbers flying up will never again believe that deficits don’t matter.
